What a Crop?

Indicators to understand the nexus between water and food

Crop selection is a multi-criteria decision. Depending on seasonality and type of irrigation, it will modify the indicators among regions such as yield, Profit and the Water Footprint.

The use of intensive indicators gives us an alternative to analyze the relationships and trade-offs between different flows. Likewise, it can provide better decision-making towards crops that have the highest nutritional benefit or a lower consumption of blue water.

‘Spatial Data Science is a Science of scale’ The drill-down of the data highlights the differences of crop water footprint among sub-regions, irrigation methods and planting season.
